Leather Finishing Products Australia

Built on decades of working with leather

The LFPA story

It started with doing the work

In 1987, Darryl began working hands-on with leather and vinyl through The Leather & Vinyl Doctor. Repairing, restoring and maintaining leather every day meant learning what worked, what didn’t, and where products could be better.

That practical experience became the foundation for Leather Finishing Products Australia. Over the decades, the business expanded into professional care systems, repair and recolouring products, finishing chemistry, technical support and training.

Today, LFPA brings those areas together, but the starting point remains the same: understanding leather by working with it.

1987 – 2009

The Early Years

From hands-on repair to LFPA

Darryl’s career in leather began in 1987, working hands-on with leather and vinyl through The Leather & Vinyl Doctor. By 1989, The Leather Doctor had moved into franchising, taking that practical repair and restoration experience further across the industry.

After almost two decades working directly with leather, 2006 marked an important step when LFPA became an Australian distributor for Stahl, bringing advanced leather finishing chemistry and technologies from one of the world’s leading leather chemical companies to the local market.

In 2007, LFPA introduced the Saba Leather Care range, developed to provide care solutions across different leather substrates and applications. By 2009, Darryl had reached 20 years in the leather industry.

2010 – 2014

Building the Range

From repair experience to complete systems

In 2010, Darryl sold The Leather Doctor business and shifted his focus further towards leather products, finishing chemistry, technical support and education.

That experience led to the development of the RTU repair system in 2011, an Australian-made, water-based range for professional leather repair and restoration.

Training became another important part of LFPA. In 2012, Darryl began delivering courses overseas. From 2012 LFPA's client base internationally, including customers in Singapore, Dubai, New Zealand, Malaysia, England and the USA.

The product range continued to grow. Cobblestone dyes, antique finishes, edge finishes and sealers were introduced in 2013, followed by StayClean in  2014, developed to meet an identified gap in the leather industry.

2019 – Today

LFPA Today

Experience that continues to evolve

In 2019, Darryl celebrated 30 years in the leather industry. By then, what had begun with hands-on leather and vinyl repair had grown into a business spanning professional leather care, repair and restoration products, finishing chemistry, technical support and training.

LFPA took another step forward in 2022 with the purchase of PCA Barham Chemicals, extending the business into the footwear industry and broadening its specialist chemical offering.

By 2025, the focus had increasingly turned towards future-proofing the industry and sustainability, including the growing role of water-based chemistry.

More than products

Built around the people who work with leather

LFPA is more than a supplier of leather care and finishing products. The business combines professional product systems with the technical knowledge, training and practical support needed to use them properly.

That means helping a technician choose the right repair process. Helping a detailer understand the leather they’re working on. Supporting manufacturers and industry professionals with finishing chemistry. And teaching the techniques behind the products through hands-on training.

In 2027, I’ll have been working with leather for 40 years. A lot has changed in that time, but I’m still just as passionate about the industry, the products and helping people get better results as I was when I started.
